Mr Thomas Collier
I am an exceptionally enthusiastic tutor with experience teaching at all ages and a range of levels. After achieving 16 GCSE’s and 6 A-levels in my hometown of Plymouth, I moved up the A38 to Exeter where I obtained my MPhys (Physics with Astrophysics) 1st Class. I am currently studying for a PhD in Theoretical Physics at the University of Exeter.
Tutoring experience
Alongside my research, I have tutored undergraduate students in a range of Maths and Physics modules. I have also been working at INTO Exeter over the past two years, teaching AS-level Foundation Maths and Physics classes to international students from hugely diverse backgrounds. Beyond academia, I have been an assistant instructor in local Shotokan Karate and Tae Kwon Do clubs. Additionally, I have extensively taught skiing on the Plymouth dry ski slope, with budding skiers aged from 5-year-olds up to retirees!
Approach to tutoring
I bring a broad portfolio of attributes to my tutorials, with bags of youthful energy and versatility to spare, I aspire to engage my students and challenge them at an ideal pace. The most successful tutor should make learning feel as easy as possible, and I achieve this through tailored problem solving while highlighting real-world applications. It wasn’t so long ago that I was a student myself after all, and this helps me to empathise with my tutees and convey my passion for Maths and Physics!
