I am an experienced primary school teacher with current curriculum experience teaching the most recent, more challenging primary curriculum. I have decided to dedicate more time to my tutoring business, Ignite Education, from a desire to create bespoke educational offerings so that every child gets the teaching time they deserve. Alongside tutoring, I also provide teacher training within school settings.

In my free time I love walking my dog, travelling, crafts and baking. Working with children is my passion and there is simply nothing better than witnessing and being part of those light-bulb moments.

Tutoring experience

During my career, I have been a class teacher across the primary age range, a Senior Leader, Lead Practitioner for Education and French Specialist across Hampshire and London. Graded 'Outstanding' by Ofsted, my passion for education and unwavering strive for excellence has resulted in years of successes and many enthusiastic, challenged and motivated pupils as well as numerous inspired and up-skilled members of teaching staff.

Over the years I have worked with hundreds of children and every one of them has inspired me to continue in my drive to ensure everyone gets the standard of education they deserve. This has included teaching children with a wide range of Special Educational Needs including dyslexia, autism and other social and communication needs, as well as higher attaining pupils. Alongside my mainstream teaching, I have tutored English and Maths to GCSE level as well as French to A-Level.

Approach to tutoring

My approach to tutoring is a bespoke offering. Everyone is different; everyone's learning styles are unique. As a teacher, it is vital that you know your learners as individuals to enable you to help them succeed and progress. Developing self-confidence is a fundamental key to successful learning and this forms a core part of my educational philosophy.

Following on from discussions with you and your child about what you hope to get from the tutoring, the first session will be used as a baseline for us to get to know one another, and an opportunity to informally assess your child's current learning and their needs. From this point, I will design a bespoke learning journey for them with clear targets to support them to progress and feel more confident. This may be targeted towards a specific exam they are taking; it may be to enable them to feel more confident in tackling the learning they face in school every day or it may be to give them a boost in an area in which they need further challenge. I use up-to-date, relevant resources which are applicable to the newest curriculum.

Tutoring takes place at my home base in Petersfield, as it is well-known that pupils tend to be in a better frame of mind for learning outside of their own home. Sessions can be booked in 6 weekly blocks (discounts are offered for block bookings of 10 sessions) at a regular weekly time agreed with you. Termly feedback reports will be provided for you to see the progress of your child.
