Ms Rachel Knightley
I am a freelance writer, director and teacher of Creative Writing, Speech and Drama. I've been running my business since 2007, when I gave up my office job as a copywriter for Telegraph Media Group to be a full-time practitioner and tutor. I also run the annual Green Ink Sponsored Write for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Lessons take place at my bases in SW15 (Barnes/Putney) and Ealing W5 (Ealing Common). I also provide Skype lessons and can offer house visits from my deputies, all of whom have full DBS clearance and a wealth of experience as tutors and practitioners.
Tutoring experience
Before working from home full-time, I taught LAMDA Exams at Heathfield School and was senior tutor (Years 7-9) for the Questors Youth Theatre. I created and taught the 11+ Creative Writing syllabus for Susan Daughtrey Education and provide educational material review in Drama and Theatre for one of the main A Level Exam boards. I've taught acting and performance skills for theatres, schools, businesses and private students of all ages since 2003. LAMDA Exams is a big part of that: the beauty of the LAMDA syllabus is we move at your own pace. The focus is always on your needs and your interests, building skills and confidence with the speed and challenges that are right for you. The most important thing is to connect with the material, so you build technique and interpretation from a truthful connection, feeling safe and enthusiastic within your progression.
Approach to tutoring
From pre-school to post-retirement, treading the boards to wowing the boardroom, there's no career where strong communication and performance skills won't turn your audience's day around. Whether you already love acting, public speaking, verse and prose – or whether the thought of speaking in public is terrifying, private tuition gives you the ability and opportunity to impress your audience and yourself!
