Approach to tutoring
Like learning to drive : I teach the basics, then expect you to get behind the wheel whilst I guide you. You will make mistakes, and discover new methods or skills, but you are doing the work. I don't expect students to be 'spoon fed' or to say "just tell me what to do", as that makes them lazy & ignore the concepts of actual learning. I show you how to do something, then I expect you to try : I practice what I preach, and never ask any tutee to do something that I can't do myself. The brain is a muscle, and problem-solving skills are needed for a life in the real world. I'm also not one for homework, as I believe that just practical 'playing around' will help them learn better.
Sometimes, IT / Computing can be thought of as being boring, nerdy, and too technical - Forget about all of those words : I use humour, and filter through all the rubbish that you don't need to know!
